DC area forecast: Heat gains through Thursday, then cooler through the weekend

By | November 6, 2023

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

8/10: Kindness tends to trump the day of the week.

  • Today: Cloudier than yesterday, but plenty of sunshine. Highs: Near 60 to mid 60s.
  • This evening: Partly cloudy. Quick shower? Lowest: 49-54.
  • Tomorrow: Mostly to partly cloudy. Highs: near 70 to mid 70s.

Most of the work week is expected to be warmer than average as this latter stretch of generally pleasant weather persists. There are some chances of rain in the forecast. We can definitely still use it. Washington and Dulles are both not far off 10 inches below the annual average. Until Friday at least, it doesn’t look like it will accomplish much.

Today (Monday): Cloudier than yesterday, but plenty of sunshine. Highs are expected to reach around 60 to mid 60s across the region. In the immediate vicinity, mainly in the mid-60s — hence the appearance of the stamp. Winds are from the south between 5 and 10 mph. Trust: medium-high

This evening: Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies are a good bet throughout the night. A low pressure system passing well to our north could cause a few brief showers, but mainly in northern Maryland or to the north. Trust: medium-high

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Slight chance of a morning pinch. Otherwise, southwesterly and westerly winds are warm and dry, with partial sunshine for much of the day. Highs range from near 70 to mid 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow evening: Northwest winds, drier air and clearer skies make for a slightly cooler night. Lows are generally in the mid to low 40s, which could reach 50 in the city. Confidence: average

On Wednesday we’re cooling off behind a backdoor cold front, but only because of Tuesday’s fairly warm conditions. With additional clouds and a northeast wind, highs will be mostly in the upper 60s and mid 60s. Confidence: average

For THURSDAY, another weak depression passes towards our north. It’s closer than the previous one, but humidity is limited. Highs are trying to reach 70-75 despite lots of clouds. A few showers are possible at the end of the day. And yet another weak low could pass as a frontal boundary pushes south Friday. This could be the best chance for rain during the week. Even cooler, with highs in the mid-50s to near 60. Confidence: Average

You look cool for the season weekend. Clearer than not, as this frontal boundary continues to move southward away from us. 50 during the day and 30 at night, with at least the northern and western suburbs at risk of freezing for daily lows. Confidence: average
