President Biden said he was “deeply involved” in ongoing hostage negotiations to free foreign and Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, and that he had “a slight hope” that an agreement could be concluded. Hamas agreed in principle to a tentative deal to release some hostages as Israel weighed its response, The Washington Post reported. The Israeli military said its soldiers continued operations inside al-Shifa hospital on Thursday, after soldiers entered the hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday evening. The Post was unable to independently verify the situation on the ground, as calls to hospital doctors were sent directly to voicemail. The hospital complex housed around 700 patients and 3,000 displaced people when the raid began, according to UN figures.
